Location

Alassio, located in the "Baia del Sole", is a renowned seaside and tourist resort thanks to its over 3 km long fine sandy beach. The water is chrystaline (amazing fauna and flora) and the temperatures are mild throughout the whole year. In front of Alassio there is Gallinara Island, a garden on the water (rosemary, basil, begonias, geraniums). It has been a regional natural park since 1989 (not open to the public).

The name Alassio is also linked to the "Muretto" (small wall) invented by Mario Berrino, patron of Caffé Roma, and by Ernest Hemingway. Back in the 1950s, Berrino wanted to embellish the wall of the public gardens. He thought of ceramic tiles autographed by famous people: the first to sign was Hemingway (about 740 signatures have been added since then). The old town runs alongside the beach with the fishermen's houses and the pedestrian Via XX Settembre which tourists know as the "budello" remains a typical Ligurian "caruggiu" (alley) amongst shops and boutiques.

Next to the sea we find the Ciccione promenade dotted with pines. Do not miss the view from Bestoso Pier. Alassio has typical products to enjoy: from fish (bottarga, mosciame, ventresca) to sweet "Baci" (kisses). And do not forget a good glass of wine (from the Albenganese plain), maybe a Pigato white wine.
